The power of prayer

When Buck Blanchard, Director of Missions for the Diocese of Virginia called me to say that he had donors who would contribute $17,000 toward meningitis vaccines I was floored. So you can only imagine my amazement and thanks when he called yesterday morning to say that the donors were willing to pay for the full 2000 doses of vaccine, double the previous amount!

We then began - on Thursday before a holiday weekend - to transfer the funds from the Diocese to St. James's church where our unflappable Pocanna Thiel tracked down vestry member Mark Shufford who took the time to go to the bank to wire this significant sum to Mustard Seed International. This happened today, on Friday.

Tick tock.

Meanwhile, Bill Deans of Mustard Seed International (based in Charleston, SC) had called his contact at MEDS in Nairobi after hours to determine if she could even fulfill an order of this magnitude. By the grace of God, it will happen. There is paperwork involved, as well as the necessary physician's orders and export documents since the medicine will be crossing into another country. They will deliver it to Akot, in time for our team to be a part of administering this life-saving medicine to the Dinka children in the wake of another epidemic. The vaccine must be refrigerated in transit and be maintained at temperature at all times.

But these are mere details. We have the vaccine. We leave in two days and are traveling halfway across the globe. We are ready, we are equipped, we have three extra duffels of supplies and gifts, and clearly, we are blessed.
